Report: Rovers II 4 - 1 Centro Argentino (HT: 2-1).
A cold day down at Solln and the Rovers II went up against the hot-headed latinos who never seem to get through a match without incident. The Rovers were controlling the game from the start and playing a lot through the right wing with Andre. Right-back Basti, made his return to defence and looked liked he was on top of things every time. The Rovers missed some clear-cut chances with Nicolas failing to direct the ball into goal from point-blank range on two occassions. He would however more than make up for his profligacy later on. The Rovers defence was barely breaking a sweat, when around the 30th minute and out of nowhere defensive towers Andy and Jon decided to make the game interesting by deflecting the ball into their own team's net and giving the Argentinians/Italians, a lead they hadn't even dreamed of, up until that point. But this time the Rovers weren't about to give a free match away and soon after with the positive influence of super-subs Gavin, Jeff and yours truly, turned the score around to a 2-1 lead with two goald from Nicolas. Halftime and everyone agreed that the lead needed to be extended in order to secure a comfortable win. The Rovers started the second half carrying the same momentum and quickly got another two goals. Great counterattack, through ball to Jason with loads of space on the left wing who in turn singled out Nicolas striding into the box. The slim Frenchman wasn't able to get a shot and clumsily let the ball pass through his legs, where luckily Andre was lurking and with a slick shot from the edge of the box made it 3-1. Fast forward about 10 minutes later and the Rovers won a penalty after #5 had brought down Nicolas in the box and then blatantly kicked him in the back (something the ref failed to see). Nicolas, feeling confident now, decided to take the penalty himself and made it 4-1. Game over for the opposition, who didn't stand a chance against a no-nonsense Rovers side. This was the last match for player-manager Paul Elias, who will undoubtedly be happy to have steered the team to a 6-match unbeaten run before the winter break.
Starting lineup: Passarelli, Geller, Marshall, Harding, Hart, Pedroso, Proudfoot, Elias, Gaston, Chevalier, Bushell. (4-4-2) Subs: Carey for Bushell (30'), Heitmann for Gaston (35'), Courchene for Elias (38'). Goals: Chevalier (3), Pedroso.
