Rovers I continued their recent struggles with a disappointing defeat to Haidhausen.

It all started promisingly enough, with some goodish passing on the kunstrasen, although a couple of nervy defensive moments served as warnings of what was to come.

Again, the Rovers failed to score the first goal, a 30-yarder from Poulton that the keeper tipped onto the bar being the closest. Instead, a long ball made its way from left to right without being cut out and they scored with an unstoppable shot past Floggs into the corner.

Several half chances followed, with a free Sobek header at the back stick being the best of them, but it was put wide. The ever-present sense of danger at the wrong end of the pitch was highlighted by a low Haidhausen drive off the post.

Any hopes of a quick turnaround were dashed shortly after the break, when two sloppy goals were given away in quick succession - the first when the opposition striker suddenly found himself in acres of space and through on goal, slotting into the bottom corner; the second when their man was left at the back stick with enough time to pick his nose as well as pick his spot and make it 0-3. Not good.

On came the cavalry in the form of Clare and Dewitt.

With 30 minutes still to go, predictably Haidhausen sat back and the Rovers poured forward in search of an unlikely comeback. Carey slid home a McGrath cross to make it 1-3 with 20 left and while several other chances were created, the second goal arrived too late - Clare firing home from 15 yards to a deafening reception from all around. Cue tumbleweed.
