Rovers I bid farewell to 2009 with a comfortable 4-0 win over second-bottom Schl?sselgarten to keep in the mix with the large group forming in the top half of the table.

With temperatures high and spirits low after a disappointing recent run, grumblings ensued at being forced to play on the clay, with Solln under 12s instead getting to enjoy the lush green expanses of Solln centre court.

Trotting out onto the pitch, eyebrows were raised at the size of the Gardener's wee-man-esque keeper. Keen 'lob-lover' McGrath was seen rubbing his hands in anticipation.

On an awkward surface, play was less than expansive for the most part as the ball bobbled around. The Rovers were unquestionably in the ascendancy, but the wee man in goal proved a feisty customer, refusing to buckle under high balls and charging out on numerous occasions to repel any danger.

The first goal came after some pretty football down the right, Mcardle found space on the touchline and drilled the ball across goal to where the unmarked Clare prepared himself to tap in, only to be tackled by McGrath. Half a goal each.

Number two arrived just before half time, essentially sealing the game, when Mcardle - finally realising that he should just stick to supplying the goals instead of trying to score them - rolled a ball inside for Poulton, who fairly broke the bottom corner of the net from 20 yards.

With the second half now an exercise in possession and chance conversion, the Rovers just about did the job. Numerous decent opportunities were created ? Dewitt putting in a number of dangerous crosses from the right ? before McGrath got the goal he and his disciples wanted, striking home a fine finish into the far corner from 15 yards. The final 20 minutes saw all and sundry make an effort to push forward and get on the score sheet, but only one more goal came: a ball across the corner of the box was generously left by Carey for the onrushing Sobek, who struck a swerving, pokey shot past wee man into the net, continuing his run beyond the touchline and then approximately 15ft up the metal fence behind the goal for a somewhat manic celebration. Two dog walkers were later treated for mild shock.

And so the curtain was brought down on the hinrunde, with the Rovers still in touch near the top and everything to play for in 2010. Playing their last league games for the club were Max ?Hollywood? Dewitt and Nathan ?Sluminator? Sluman ? both returning to blighty and both will certainly be missed next year.
