Rovers I match report

                    Salmi
      Mcphail Westhead Sobek
Meyer Poulton Clare Coombe De Marco
              McGrath Wood

Subs:
Ryan for Coombe
McCambridge for Mcphail

Rovers I completed their season against the already relegated Schlosselgar. Clare was to boss the midfield with Poulton and Coombe to mop up his mess behind. Meyer was switched to the right flank - Arjen Robben or similar. Salmi was back in goals, although complaining of a sprained wrist in an overly exuberant warm-up. The opposition looked well up for it, especially the two lads in spectacles.

Rovers had all the play early on, but the finishing was somewhat astray and their keeper made some solid saves. Woody smashed one into the cross-bar from 10 yards out. The goal finally came to Mcgrath who headed in from close range. A second followed shortly after to a Meyer/Robben long range effort, although Sobek appealed for the faintest of edges. Not given for the second time in two days though. Salmi expertly tipped one over the bar at the end of the half to retain the 2-0 lead.

The second half started better and we slotted home a few goals in quick succession. Ryan came on for Coombe, and Mccambridge for Mcphail to inject some experience into the middle. The chances were coming thick and fast, but the finishing was not the George Best. In fact, the manager went for an early shower after seeing so many gimmes missed. It was unclear whether it was the McGrath "I can't score from there, the ball is behind me" or Clare's left foot duff was the final straw. The last few goals did come in a hurry after this though. Ryan scored the goal of the game, drilling it from 25 yards out. De Marco finished a well worked move cooly. Clare beat the Kamikaze keeper one-on-one, and Meyer beat the offside trap and had a simple finish.

So 9-0 it ended, an underwhelming finish to a season where we finished 6th in the B Klasse and 10 points off a promotion play-off. Rovers I proceeded to watch the B team win and get promoted, and then to Molly's to celebrate, lose their phones and the usual carry on.

See you next season boss.
