Spectators - 3 Sach's, Sobek, Carey, Nick, Diana, Andrea, Vicky, Stef, Herbert, Aido, Rod

The game started with the spectators making their way to viewing area and to the trees for shelter as the rain began to fall. After a brief shower the picnic blanket was laid down by Gav and Luke with Luke taking to the floor, no pun(ches), to take off the stiefel and rest his leg.

The Rovers missed a couple of one and ones and the gaffer started to get animated with the finishing or lack thereof. The Sach family arrived just in time for Paul to pull one back across the goal only for Colton to miss an empty net from point blank range, maybe he was masquerading as Jesus circa 2006. Then Alex hit the top corner of an open goal (just to make sure), after good work by Colton with an alternative step over pass, which perhaps was incorrectly called offside. Greg and Colton made way for Clare and Poulton after half an hour and Rod, Diana, Nick and Luke had a smoke to calm the nerves. General chit chat followed and Alex hit wood work twice. Lovell flapped one clear and ref had seen enough and called half time.

Rod and Gav went on a coffee run whilst Luke tried to get others to sit on blanket with him - rejections all around. The players went back on the pitch and the rain came again, Nick and Diana sported his and her's umbrellas and did their best to keep the cripple dry. Rod had another Peter Stuyvesant and Alex hit the bar again and a fifty yard free kick flew wide by the Croats.

Clare got injured on the ankle and was about to come off when the hare was set loose and the greyhound ran after it only to be met in a 50 50 with the opposing keeper. The ankle doubled in size and Clare, taken off for Sach, borrowed the crutches to be taken to hospital but thought it more fun to have a piggy back ride from Gav to the car. Diana brought the crutches back and McGrath was offside again.

Ruane took a throw in and Lovell picked it up much to the humour of the spectators but not the gaffer. Maloney taking the resulting free kick in the chest like a real player of the year. Rod had another Peter Stuyvesant. The Croats took a foul throw much to the annoyance of Wood who yelled 'schiedsrichter stoppen nase bohren'. The ref tried to send Nick off but the heavies weren't there to escort him away. Herbert had a word with Luke for being a soppy so and so but the comment was passed on to its correct owner - Nick.

The Croat?s went down to 10 men after Alex was hauled to the floor when thru on goal. The Rover's hit the bar again with Jesus and Maloney finding the woodwork much to everyone's annoyance. The latter shot only had to be tapped in by Poulton on the rebound but instead chose to stand close but not too close to the ball as it bounced and spun over the bar. It needed to look like a genuine miss. Poulton denies speaking to a NOTW reporter about a scoreless draw.

The ref blew for full time and Rod had run out of Peter Stuyvesant so hit the emergency stash as all and sundry made their way back to the kabine contemplating what could have been.

MOM - The crossbar for obvious reasons. Rod for his lung capacity or the injured Nick for his wit and ball retrieving skills. Each time he managed to do a quick doggie to retrieve the ball he would come back and say the calf was still tight but will be fine for Thursday. I'll let the reader pick their own from the nominations above.
