 Rovers Dig Deep to Foil Gardeners of Fasan

The Gardeners from Fasan were welcome opponents to Solln after the nonsense of the last few games. Herbert selected the same starting XI from the previous week's record victory against 2.5 Men or thereabouts but unfortunately car trouble meant, the late arriving, Poulton was replaced by Testori.
After a bright start and a couple of chances the Rovers broke the deadlock when Meyer released McGrath down the left whose excellent left footed cross was met by a trademark Sobek run who ghosted in and volleyed home from close range. Bushell had a header cleared of the line then Salmi palmed a stinging free kick over the bar. Fasan then rattled the post with a swerving shot just before the end of the half.
After the restart the Rovers struggled to take a foothold in the game and were duly punished when Ruane misjudged a header and the wee winger cut inside to slot home with 20 to go. Conceding seemed to galvanise the home team and Poulton and Alvaro began pulling the strings in midfield but were unable to open up the Gardeners who were happy to sit much deeper and play on the counter. Meyer had a shot cleared off the line from a McGrath corner. The game looked destined for a draw until Herbert was fouled just inside the opposition half in the penultimate minute.? Bodies were sent into the box and Sobek drove one into the mixer and McGrath and Bushell combined for the former to slot in from a yard.
Smiles all round for some but not others.
