Rovers I were at home against bottom of the table Baierbrunn in the Autumn sunshine. Chris Murphy pulled out of the game late doors due to a case of kneeknack, allowing single father Sach to return to the side with the help of a spectating babysitter. The usual warm-up also had the additions of pram laps for Sach, locking the centre midfield in the changing rooms, and finding linesmen and flags for the somewhat pedantic referee.

Rovers lined up in some form of Xmas tree formation, with wide men Brix and Courenq given much more licence to push on. Rover however looked like they were still in Kennedys or similar for the first 10 minutes and Baierbrunn looked anything but bottom of the table material as they passed it round the middle at will. Rovers gradually pulled themselves into the game, looking particularly dangerous down the right flank with Brix's pace. Baierbrunn had the best chance of the half with a long range strike hitting the cross bar, and Passarelli saving the follow-up shot. Halbzeit. 0-0.

Rovers went for a triple change 15 mins into the half. Shortly after, a Bushell run and cross from wide right was skew shinpad volleyed by Clare to Brix, who finished into the roof of the net from a tight angle. 1-0. Baierbrunn still had the majority of the ball, and the majority of the shots, but these either went wide of the goal or straight at Passarelli. Clare had one shot well saved by the keeper, but we didn't have many other attempts on goal. The ref had an obvious Kiwi bias, calling an off-side when I collected the ball in our half with a clear run to goal, and turning down a penalty in the dying minutes.

Rovers held on to their 1-0 lead, and after the game we learned that their first team had a bye, and were able to stack their team. So a good result in the circumstances. Sach bought a 'big beer' for all to enjoy and celebrate our 3 points.
