Rovers II met Schl?sselgarten in a lower mid table clash. The game was somewhat delayed by the absence of some player passes, with Sach saving the day by bringing them down to placate the ref. Rovers lined up 4-5-1.
Rovers took the lead midway through the first half after one of a series of Solven corners and free-kicks was finally converted. Clare headed it goalward from the back stick, with Proudfoot poking it in from a Bushellesque 1 yard out. 1-0. Rovers were awarded a penalty ten minutes later and Elias - as all player managers would/should - took the elfmeter. It was reasonably struck but the keeper pushed it round the post. A quality through-ball from Reeves was finished off by Clare. 2-0. It should have been 3-0 moments later, but Clare hit it too close to the keeper.
The gardeners struggled in the second half and the Rovers notched five more. A Solven cross from the right was finished at the near post by Clare. 3-0. Clare ran onto another throughball and slipped it past the keeper. 4-0. A Basti special free-kick was only parried wide by the keeper, and an Aido scoop cross was nodded in by Clare for his fourth. 5-0. Significantly this brought him back equal with Sobek with 67 goals for the Rovers, after the Vice-Chairman had shamelessly notched 6 the previous week against an English touring team.? Bernie was on the end of another pinpoint througball and easily beat the keeper 6-0. And from the last play, Clare headed a corner onto the crossbar, which bounced straight down and Marshall then nodded in from exactly zero yards out. 7-0.
Also very pleasing to keep a clean sheet, with the defence marshalled by Andy and Richie always in control, allowing Felix to have a quiet day out between the sticks. A very good and enjoyable Rovers performance, and was the second part of the Rovers treble for the weekend (the first ever?). New recruits Matt Solven, Andre Pedroso and the reborn Bernie Reeves all had good games, and are very useful additions to the club.
